Bruel & Kjaer:Take a closer look at the long list of sound and vibration problems Brüel & Kjær helps to solve - from building acoustics to structural dynamics.

Sensors are structures similar in nature to the objects you are testing. That is, they obey those same laws of physics and must behave accordingly. By understanding these concepts and implementing innovative ideas, engineers are able to design sensors that sense and communicate useful information, while rejecting undersirable inputs such as temperature, sound, or strain.

For dynamic pressure, force and acceleration (vibration or shock) measurements, piezoelectric sensors offer a well balanced blend of precision, ruggedness and affordability. By taking a brief look at the following information that explains the construction of piezoelectric sensors it is no wonder that they excel in dynamic measurement applications.

In selecting the components necessary to develop a complete measurement system or add to an existing system, you will want to consider the specific requirements of your application and the varying characteristics of the sensors, power units, and cables required. The technical articles in this section are authored by our company president and technical director, Nicholas D. Change, an acknowledged expert in the field of sensor design. These articles discuss the theory, technologies, and individual operating characteristics of the components required to develop a complete system.

Do you have a need for knowledge? If you’re sitting there nodding your head, then you’ve come to the right place. The following list offers technical support for every level, from apprentice to vibration suma cum laude.

The State-Of-The-Art in measuring vibration, shock, force and pressure plus AC and DC Signal Conditioning equipment is presented here. It represents the "technical know-how" for which Endevco has become internationally recognized as the leader in the design, manufacture and distribution of piezoelectric, piezoresistive and variable capacitance transducers and related instrumentation.

An Introduction to the Resistive Strain Gage
A strain gage is a thin metal foil that changes resistance with applied strain. Strain gages are the preferred choice in stress analysis due to their small size and relatively low cost. An entire test specimen can be gaged for multiple point stress analysis at a very low cost. Strain gages can measure strain levels from a few microstrain (µ) to over 100,000 microstrain. When used in conjunction with a precision signal conditioner, accurate strain measurements are possible. The introductory user is cautioned to be aware that there are many pitfalls involved with strain gage measurements. Careful attention to the various error sources will assure accurate measurements. This technical brief will address basic strain gage theory and some of the more common problems associated with strain gage measurements...
